Latest pattern release from Colette Patterns - Introducing Moneta and Mabel

Well this morning Colette Patterns have unveiled their latest patterns The Mabel skirt and Moneta dress designed to be made with knits.
Previously all their patterns have been designed to be made with wovens but after taking a look at the most worn items in her own wardrobe and after customer feedback ( if you follow the Colette patterns blog you will know Sarai is always asking our opinion on what we love/hate and what we want to see from the patterns being released) Sarai decided to add some patterns for knits.
I for one couldn't be happier as I love both wearing and sewing with knits and these patterns are just what one would expect from Colette Patterns, stylish well drafted with a hint of vintage flair.
Lets take a look at the patterns, shall we?

As you can see the Mabel has 3 style options and they say can be made up in an hour! My kind of project!
It's designed to be sewn in a stable knit e.g ponti or a pique which makes it perfect for sewers who are new to sewing with knits as you have more control over the fabric. It's not that different to sewing a woven actually.

The next pattern is The Moneta dress which for me was released very timely as I have just purchased some black rayon cotton jersey ( one of my favourite knit blends, it's sooo soft!) with exactly this style in mind to be my go to dress for the upcoming winter months.

It's the perfect little day dress that can be modified so it's suitable year round. There are collar varitions you can add if you are inclined, you can go 3/4 sleeve, short sleeve or no sleeves at all! apparently there are over 20 ways to make this little number up and see the cropped jumper worn with the Mabel skirt?? Sarai has said that was adapted from this pattern with a tutorial coming soon!

I think one of the reasons the Colette Patterns company continues to be so popular and consistently good is because they are so in touch and interactive with their customers. They are always asking for feedback and you can see they are taking the customers suggestions and needs and wants and applying them to their product. High five Colette Patterns!!

We will be stocking both of these patterns and they are now available for pre-order with delivery expected late April/early May

New pattern from Colette

Colette Patterns latest release, The Zinnia Skirt was announced today. It's an extremely versatile pattern that can be made up in a variety of fabrics.

Version 1 has a below knee length, and closes with a placket and buttons up the front. The skirt is gathered to a waistband at the natural waist and includes pleated patch pockets.

Version 2 is shorter in length, with stitched-down pleats, belt loops, and in-seam pockets.

Version 3 is also pleated, but comes with instructions for lining, so it’s perfect for sheer fabrics like the chiffon shown here.

The possibilities are endless, but the thing that i love is all you need to fit is the waist!
We will have The Zinnia Pattern in store early to mid october and I will also be re-stocking the other patterns from the Colette range.

On another note I am curious about what you guys think of the way Colette are now releasing their patterns, as a single pattern at a time rather than a few at once which they had previously been doing??

Gorgeous version of Colette Patterns Peony Dress

Have you guys come across Ami's blog www.sewinglondon.co.uk? if not jump over and check it out she makes the most gorgeous things and is very clever with her pattern alterations. Today her beautiful version of Colette patterns Peony Dress popped up in my news feed.

( photo from www.sewinglondon.co.uk)

Seriously how beautiful is this dress??? I love the subtle nod to '60's style, without looking costumey.
This could even be a great option for a non-tradtional bride.
Ami made quite a few alterations, and after reading several pattern reviews this is not uncommon, so make a muslin for this one peeps. You can read Ami's full post here.

Polka Dot Iris and a Jersey Banksia

Today I'd like to share with you a few of my recent sewing projects.

First up is my pair of Iris shorts from colette patterns made up in a polka dot stretch cotton from Tessuti which is sadly no longer available. I made up the size 4 with no pattern adjustments other than to omit the pockets. Because of the print i wanted a really clean line for these shorts. I am really happy with the finished product, they are comfortable, not too high in the waist ( a look i love but can get uncomfortable when driving around all day, or eating lol) or short in the leg. I will be making this one again.

I also had a go at making up the Banksia Blouse in a stretch fabric. I read Megan's post in the banksia sew-a-long and followed her super easy tutorial for modifying the pattern for stretch fabrics and followed her instructions for a stretchy neckband from the briar sewalong and drafted my own neckband. It turned out great a very professional finish that was super easy to do! if you haven't checked out Megan Nielsen's blog be sure to, she has so many fantastic tutorials and tips for making your sewing easier and getting a professional finish.

Like the Madewell Songbird Dress? Wanna make your own?

The Madewell "Songbird" dress is one of the brands most iconic styles and lucky for us girls who sew the classic style is super easy to replicate with minimal effort.

First grab yourself a copy of Colette Patterns Peony  dress. This style is nearly identical to the Songbird. The Peony features a bateau neckline rather than the round but this is easily altered should you wish ( if anyone would like me to do a tutorial please just ask!).

You can also alter the skirt to make it fuller if you wish, again this is a simple alteration. Put aside the skirt pattern piece and cut 2 rectangles both 2x waist measurement wide x desired length. Mark where you want your pockets to be ( you can use the pocket pattern piece from the peony dress) and attach as outlined in the peony instructions.
Stitch 3 rows of basting stitches along top of skirt piece, gather to fit bodice.
stitch skirt front and back together as outlined in peony pattern and voila you have your fuller skirt.

This dress is best made up in a mid weight cotton or wool. A chambray would look gorgeous and I love The striped version worn by Busy Phillips (pic below).

New Patterns from Colette

Colette patterns have unveiled their two new patterns for Autumn, The Juniper and The Anise.

Juniper is a classic wide leg trouser, fitted through the hips and feature a wide tabbed waist.

Next up is The Anise jacket. The first thing I though of when I saw this jacket was Betty Draper and Jackie O.
Its a double breasted cropped jacket reminiscent of the 1960's styles. It's fully lined with single welt pockets and as there are no seams in front it's suitable for plaids and stripes.

Sarai from Colette Patterns had planned to do a sew-a-long for this pattern given the many steps involved, however she decided there was so much info it would be easier to put it together in a little guide - The Anise Companion. It's a pdf download and if you purchase today it's half price which comes to $5. I purchased it for myself this morning and it is well worth the $5, very informative with lots of pictures.

The Juniper and Anise will be arriving in the store in the next week or so, I will write a post to let everyone know when they are here :-)
Another couple of fantastic patterns from Colette. It's great to see more trouser patterns being released, as much as I love pretty dresses and love to wear them you cant beat a great pair of pants. I'll have to wait a while to try these patterns out as the weather is already pretty warm here, but maybe Juniper in white linen could be an option?

What fabric combos do you picture for these patterns?
